Nursing and IT jobs are those most likely to require the support of third-party recruiting agencies to be filled, according to research released today.

The research, which analyzed jobs posted online specifically by staffing firms and the increase or decrease in market demand, found registered nurses, application software developers, and web developers are the occupations that employers are most likely to bring on an external staffing specialist to fill.

Staffing agencies recruited for 25% more registered nurses in 2014 than in prior years, according to the report. IT positions accounted for 70% of occupations on this list.

Occupation and year-to-year increase in hiring:

Registered nurses: 25.1%

Software developers, applications: 72.5%

Web developers: 41.5%

Network and computer systems administrators: 44.1%

Accountants: 67.5%

Computer systems analysts: 32.3%

Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks: 106.4%

Computer user support specialists: 47.8%

Information technology project managers: 44.6%

Computer programmers: 35.4%

“Due to hiring growth and more competition to find and attract the best talent, companies in certain industries are facing increasingly difficult recruiting conditions,” said Meredith Amdur. “Staffing firms are being hired to fill excess jobs that HR teams can’t fill internally either due to overall challenging conditions or lack of internal recruiting time and resources especially for these jobs with niche skillsets.”
