SAUSALITO, CA (ASRN.ORG) --Gallup conducted it's annual poll of top 22 professions and "Nursing" scored the highest on the list, again. The American public trusts nurses more than any other profession in the country.
Nurses out-ranked pharmacists, doctors, dentists, and psychiatrists. They're viewed as more honest than police officers and members of the clergy. In fact, since RN's first appearance in the ranking, Gallup says that nurses have received the highest ranking each year except 2001, when firefighters ranked first after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
These results are from Gallup's Nov. 26-29 update of the perceived honesty and ethical standards of professions. Survey respondents rated each profession on a five-point honesty and ethical scale ranging from "very high" to "very low."
Americans' views of the 22 professions tested vary widely -- extending from the 85% who rate nurses' ethics and honesty as very high or high to a low of 8% rating car salespeople the same.
