Brielle Brumfield worked as a nurse at Coachella, providing IV hydration and medical care to festivalgoers.
She shared her unique experience on TikTok, where her behind-the-scenes videos went viral with millions of views.
Brumfield says the role showed her a new side of nursing and inspired her to embrace unconventional opportunities.
For Brielle Brumfield, nursing has always been about helping people — but this spring, it took her somewhere unexpected.
The 27-year-old pediatric emergency department nurse, originally from Louisiana and currently working as a travel nurse in California, traded the hospital setting for something a little more unconventional: Coachella.
“I wanted something different from bedside and a chance to experience another side of nursing,” said Brumfield. “Coachella felt like the perfect mix of healthcare and a unique environment… and I’ve always loved being in California, so it just made sense.”
While most festivalgoers were focused on music and fashion, Brumfield was working behind the scenes — providing IV hydration and medical support to attendees dealing with the realities of long, hot days in the desert.
Getting there wasn’t simple.
“To be a nurse for IV hydration at Coachella, you have to be skilled and confident in your IV skills,” she explains, noting that the role requires a registered nursing license, a bachelor’s degree and California certification.
Once on the job, no two days looked the same.
“A typical day for me looked like picking up the medications for the patients and the IV supplies and going to them, whether that be at a campground, Airbnb or hotel by the music festival,” she says. From there, she would check vital signs, coordinate with an on-call doctor to medically clear patients, administer IV fluids and medications and then move on to the next call.
The most common issues? Exactly what you’d expect at a high-energy, desert festival.
“People need a nurse for Coachella for dehydration, dizziness and heat-related illness,” Brumfield says. “It’s hot, people are walking all day, dancing, sometimes drinking alcohol — so dehydration and heat exhaustion are super common.”
Still, despite the fast-paced nature of the work, Brumfield says the experience was unlike anything she’s done before.
“I loved meeting so many different people and being part of such a fun, high-energy environment,” she says.
Wanting to give people a glimpse into that world, Brumfield began sharing her experience on TikTok, and quickly struck a chord.
Her videos, which show what it’s really like to work as a nurse at a major music festival, have since gone viral, racking up millions of views as viewers expressed fascination with the behind-the-scenes side of Coachella.
"I want to do this next year!! do you have to be local??" one user commented.
"Please let me know how you landed this job!! Need to add this to the list after I get my certifications done!" another replied.
